Therapeutic intravascular catheterization and cannulation: Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of heart and coronary arteries: Balloon valvotomy: Pulmonary valve

A catheter has been used to treat your heart.

A catheter is a thin tube. This tube is inserted into a blood vessel in the groin or arm. The tube is then pushed onward to the heart. At the tip of the tube there are small instruments that can be used to treat the heart or the vessels.

An inflatable balloon has been used to widen your pulmonary valve. The pulmonary valve is the valve between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery.

The heart pumps blood through the body. Inside the heart are 4 chambers. There are 2 heart atria and 2 ventricles. Both heart atria and both ventricles are separated from each other by a partition. There are 4 valves in the heart. These valves ensure that the blood flows in the right direction. So they have to close tightly. They also have to open up fully so that the blood can be properly pumped out of the heart.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
