Extracorporeal circulation and treatment of blood: Intraoperative circulation outside the body (using heart lung machine): At normothermia (over 35°C): With intra-aortic balloon occlusion

You have had an operation involving the use of a heart-lung machine.

When a heart operation is being carried out, the heart is stopped for a while. During surgery the task of a heart-lung machine is to replace the heart and lung functions. Amongst other things, the heart-lung machine enriches the blood with oxygen and pumps it around the body. The aorta, which emerges from the heart, is closed by a balloon during this process.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
