Extracorporeal circulation and treatment of blood: Intraoperative circulation outside the body (using heart lung machine): Unspecified

You have had an operation involving the use of a heart-lung machine.

When a heart operation is being carried out, the heart is stopped for a while. During surgery the task of a heart-lung machine is to replace the heart and lung functions. Amongst other things, the heart-lung machine enriches the blood with oxygen and pumps it around the body. The aorta, which emerges from the heart, is closed during this process.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left

  • B: Both sides
