8-85b:
Extracorporeal circulation and treatment of blood: Use of leeches to ensure venous blood drainage following flap surgery or limb reimplantation
Leeches have been used on you after an operation.
After surgery, the blood in the area that has been operated on may not drain away properly. The substances from the leeches should make the blood drain away better through the blood vessels in the skin. To achieve this, the leeches attach themselves to the skin by suction and they secrete certain substances at that site.
