You were treated in hospital for several weeks before you received a pancreas from another person.

The pancreas is tucked behind the stomach in the upper abdomen. The pancreas produces messenger substances. The messenger substances control the sugar level in the blood. The pancreas also produces a fluid that is released into the intestines. This fluid contains substances that are important for digesting fats, proteins and sugars.

Someone is given a pancreas from another person when their own pancreas stops working well enough.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
