You were treated in hospital for a few weeks in preparation for a donor pancreas.

The pancreas is tucked behind the stomach in the upper abdomen. The pancreas produces messenger substances. The messenger substances control the sugar level in the blood. The pancreas also produces a fluid that is released into the intestines. This fluid contains substances that are important for digesting fats, proteins and sugars.

Someone is given a donor pancreas when their own pancreas stops working well enough. There is usually a very limited number of donor organs available. So there is a waiting list for the relevant donor organ. You are on the waiting list for a donor pancreas.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • B: Both sides
