You were treated in hospital for a few weeks in preparation for a donor lung.

You need lungs to breath. When we breathe in, oxygen enters the lungs and accumulates in the blood. This blood then flows to the heart. The heart then pumps the oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. All of the organs are supplied with oxygen as a result.

Someone is given a donor lung when their own lung stops working well enough. There is usually a very limited number of donor organs available. So there is a waiting list for the relevant donor organ. You are on the waiting list for a donor lung.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
