G95.18: Other vascular myelopathies

Your spinal cord is damaged. This is caused by a problem with the blood supply to the spinal cord.

The spinal cord is located in the spinal column. The spinal cord is made up of nerve fibers. The brain uses the nerve fibers to exchange information with the organs, skin and muscles. Blood vessels supply the spinal cord with oxygen-rich blood.

Various disorders can cause problems with the blood supply to the spinal cord. Blood vessels can narrow or widen, for example. If the blood supply to the spinal cord is poor, it can become damaged.

Spinal cord damage can result in a variety of symptoms. Possible symptoms include back pain, for example. The skin in some parts of the body may also feel numb, tingly or sore. Or you may be unable to move your arms or legs properly. You may have difficulties when passing water or emptying your bowels.
