H06.2: Dysthyroid exophthalmos

One of your eyes is bulging. This is due to your thyroid gland disorder.

The eye is in the eye socket. The eye socket is a bony cavity in the face part of the skull. It is cone-shaped and padded with fatty tissue. Within it, the eye is well protected. The eye muscles, the tear duct and the optic nerve are also located in the eye socket. Due to the thyroid gland disorder, additional tissue has formed behind your eye in your eye socket. As a result, your eye is being pressed forwards.

When the eye bulges there can be a variety of symptoms. You may be unable to close your eye properly and it will feel dry. You may also be unable to move that eye fully. Your vision might be impaired. You may also have double vision.
