O22.2: Superficial thrombophlebitis in pregnancy

One or more veins in your body are inflamed.

Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart. A distinction is drawn between surface veins beneath the skin and deeper-lying veins in the body’s tissue.

When superficial veins are inflamed, the skin above can be red, hot and painful. It may also be possible to feel the affected vein above the skin as a hard strand.
