P03.3: Fetus and newborn affected by delivery by vacuum extractor [ventouse]

During the birth, damage to health occurred due to the use of a vacuum cup.

If there are difficulties during the birth and the child's head is lying deep in the pelvis, a vacuum cup may be used. A suction cup can be attached to the back of the child’s head during the labor. This helps to pull the child out of the vagina.

Using a vacuum cup can damage the child's health. Damage to health may be, for example, an abrasion on the skin or bruising to the head.
