Your skin is very sensitive to sunlight. This condition is congenital, which means you were born with it.
Sunlight can damage the genetic information in the cells. This kind of damage is normally repaired by the body. When beginning its development, every single cell in the body contains a complete blueprint of the body. This blueprint consists of genetic information. The genetic information is encrypted in the chromosomes. Every human cell normally contains 23 chromosome pairs, i.e. a total of 46 chromosomes.
You have a disease that means your body cannot fully repair damage to the genetic information. This disorder is hereditary. Other family members may also be affected.
This causes the skin to change in several areas. Spots or dry areas may form on the skin, for example. You may very quickly get severe sunburn on the skin. The disease puts you at increased risk of getting cancer. The disease can also affect other parts of the body. The eyes may also be sensitive to sunlight. The nervous system has sometimes failed to develop properly.
