S02.3: Fracture of orbital floor
You have broken the lower bone in your eye socket.
The bones in the skull are called cranial bones. The cranial bones include the jaw bones, which the teeth sit in. The cranial bones also protect the brain and the sensory organs in the head. These sensory organs include the eyes and nose, for example.
The eyes lie on a thin layer of bone. There is a hollow beneath this layer of bone. When the bone beneath the eye is broken, it can sink downwards. You may also then get double or blurred vision. Sometimes the skin below the eye concerned also feels numb. A large bruise may also form beneath the eye concerned.
