Z44.2: Fitting and adjustment of artificial eye

You had a prosthetic eye inserted or adjusted.

An ocular prosthesis is a synthetic replacement for the eye. An ocular prosthesis may also replace specific parts of the eye, such as the lens. The ocular prosthesis also prevents the eye socket from shrinking after the eye has been removed or partially removed. An ocular prosthesis may be required if, for example, the eye has been damaged by a disorder or by a severe injury.

Before a prosthetic eye is inserted, the right shape and size is calculated. The ocular prosthesis can then be manufactured. Examinations later on check to see whether the prosthetic eye inserted fits and works properly. Minor damage to an existing ocular prosthesis may also be corrected.
