Incisional biopsy of ear and nose: Incisional biopsy of sinuses

Tissue samples have been taken from your paranasal sinuses.

We need the nose for breathing and smelling. The outside of the nose is composed of bone and cartilage. The nasal septum divides the nasal cavity into two halves. The inside of the nose is lined with a moist mucous membrane. The nasal concha are bony protrusions in the nose, and also lined with mucous membrane.

The sinuses are cavities in the skull that are filled with air. They have an inner lining of a moist and smooth membrane. This inner membrane is also called the mucous membrane. The mucous membrane produces fluid. Each of these paranasal sinuses are connected to the nose via an opening. As a result, fluid can run out of the sinuses into the nose.
