Pulmonary function tests: Assessment of ventilation status and potential for weaning from mechanical ventilation: With finding that no potential for weaning from mechanical ventilation exists

An assessment has been made as to whether your artificial respiration can be gradually brought to an end.

In the case of certain illnesses or injuries, artificial respiration can be required to supply the body with oxygen. The body gets used to the artificial respiration. So the patient may no longer be able to breathe independently after artificial respiration. So certain tests are carried out before ending artificial respiration. In this way, an assessment can be made as to whether the artificial respiration can be gradually brought to an end.

The testing includes, for example, an assessment of how well the body is being supplied with oxygen. The breathing is also tested carefully. Measurements are taken of how much air is getting into the body with each breath taken, and how rapid the breathing is. The strength of any coughing is also looked at. There are additional tests for other conditions, because certain conditions can make it more difficult to breathe independently. The testing established that your artificial respiration should be continued.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
