Other diagnostic puncture and aspiration: Diagnostic (percutaneous) puncture and aspiration of abdominal cavity: Needle biopsy of pouch of Douglas
Fluid has been taken from the deepest part of your abdomen with a needle.
The abdominal organs are located in the abdomen. The abdomen is lined from within with a membrane. The membrane is made up of individual cells. These cells normally release a small amount of fluid into the abdomen. Thanks to this fluid, the organs can move and slide past each other.
The deepest part of the abdomen is behind the womb. The uterus or womb sits in the pelvis and is pear-shaped. The narrower part extends downward into the vagina and is called the cervix. When a woman is pregnant, the child grows in her uterus. The fluid taken from it can then be examined in the laboratory.
