Medical evaluation for transplant: Medical evaluation and decision on indication for transplant: Re-evaluation with patient placed or retained on organ transplantation waiting list: Heart and lung transplant
Another assessment has been made as to whether you should be given a heart and a lung from another person.
Sometimes vital organs no longer work properly. There can be a variety of reasons for that. The affected people can be helped with a properly functioning replacement organ. The appropriate organ or tissue can be donated by other people. The donor organ or donor tissue has to be removed surgically.
Your heart and your lungs are no longer working properly. The heart pumps blood through the body. In the process, the blood flows through blood vessels. The blood supplies all areas of the body with oxygen and nutrients. You need lungs to breath. When we breathe in, oxygen enters the lungs and accumulates in the blood. This blood then flows to the heart. The heart then pumps the oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. All of the organs are supplied with oxygen as a result.
A questionnaire and various tests are usually used to assess whether a person is suitable for a donor heart and a donor lung. There are many different factors involved, such as one’s state of health.
There is usually a very limited number of donor organs available. So there is a waiting list for the organ concerned. You have been put on the waiting list for a donor heart and for a donor lung, or you continue to be on this list.
