8-837.b3:
Therapeutic intravascular catheterization and cannulation: Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of heart and coronary arteries: Septostomy: Atrial, with insertion of implant
A catheter has been used to treat your heart.
A catheter is a thin tube. This tube is inserted into a blood vessel in the groin or arm. The tube is then pushed onward to the heart. At the tip of the tube there are small instruments that can be used to treat the heart or the vessels.
A site in the septum between the atria of your heart has been artificially opened. A small tube was then inserted so that the site constantly remains open.
The heart pumps blood through the body. Inside the heart are 4 chambers. There are 2 heart atria and 2 ventricles. Both heart atria and both ventricles are separated from each other by a partition.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
