A48.4: Brazilian purpuric fever
You have been infected with purpura.
Purpura is caused by viruses. The bacteria occur in South America.
First they can cause connective tissue to become inflamed. The affected eye can be purulent, red and sensitive to light. The transparent conjunctiva covers the eye and the inside of the eyelids. Along with the tears, the conjunctiva forms a liquid film on the eye. Together, the conjunctiva, the eyelids, and the liquid film on the eye all protect the eye from external agents. The conjunctiva also helps defend against pathogens.
After a while other symptoms can occur. You can then get a high temperature and abdominal pain. You may feel sick and need to vomit. Bleeds can occur in the skin. Blood poisoning can also occur. Blood poisoning makes you very ill. You may become confused and sleepy. You may have a fever and a very fast pulse. Your breathing may also be abnormally fast. Blood poisoning can affect many organs in the body. For example, the kidneys may no longer produce enough urine.
