Infection monitoring and molecular/microbiological diagnostic procedures: Infection monitoring: Microbiological infection monitoring in immune-suppressed patients

You have been subjected to regular examinations to detect infections early. This was necessary because your body’s own immune system was suppressed.

An infection causes pathogens such as bacteria, viruses or fungi to enter the human body. The body’s own immune system is designed to provide protection from pathogens. However, some conditions or certain medications can suppress the immune system. A suppressed immune system is often unable to adequately combat pathogens. Therefore, in these cases it is especially important to detect infections early and then give these diseases specific treatment. To detect pathogens in the body, one can, for example, examine blood, saliva or urine in a laboratory.
