Incision, excision, resection and anastomosis of small and large intestine: Incision in intestine: Percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy (PEJ)
You have had an artificial opening to your small intestine made via an incision in your abdominal skin. A feeding tube was inserted through this opening.
The small intestine is the first part of the intestine, after the stomach. The nutrients from food are absorbed in the small intestine.
Food and drink can be taken through a feeding tube. A tube like this is inserted through an artificial opening in the small intestine.
To create the artificial opening in the small intestine, a tube with a camera was first inserted through your oesophagus to your stomach and then on to your small intestine. The feeding tube could then be inserted via an incision in your abdominal skin.
